Committee Bylaws

(1) This committee makes general plans for University-sponsored assemblies, programs, and public occasions such as Open House Days, Homecoming, and Commencement. It recommends policies for faculty and student programs, guest speakers, ad hoc events, and makes recommendations to the Chancellor on the academic calendar (at least one and no more than three recommendations).

(2) The committee consists of six (6) faculty members elected from and by the General Faculty, one administrator appointed by the Chancellor, three (3) students selected by the Student Council, and one (1) student selected by the Council of Graduate Students. Faculty members shall serve for a two-year (2-year) term with one half elected each year. The administrator is appointed by the Chancellor. The students serve as stated.

(3) The Commencement subcommittee of the POC is in charge of planning and overseeing the implementation of Commencement ceremonies and related events. This subcommittee reports to the POC, not directly to the Faculty Senate, and includes an annual report of its activities.

(4) Two (2) members elected by and from the POC are to serve on the Commencement subcommittee. Any significant changes to the form or function of the Commencement ceremonies, as determined by these members, must be approved by the Faculty Senate.
